thing that I have seen repeatedly just now: people who are like “well, there’s no point in voting because Trump didn’t get the most votes and he still won and that shows the system is rigged” – the slightly more aware posters will also invoke the 2000 election – and while it’s a legitimate problem that the Electoral College works in a way that increasingly gives Republicans an unfair advantage, it’s also really dumb to invoke that DURING THE MIDTERMS. Because THERE ISN’T AN ELECTORAL COLLEGE FOR ANY OTHER OFFICE. The person with the most votes WINS. GET OFF YOUR DIDN’T-PAY-ATTENTION-IN-CIVICS-CLASS ASS AND VOTE.

“A long-term study of children raised by lesbians found that these children were less likely to suffer from physical and sexual abuse than were their peers who were raised by heterosexuals. This is thought to be due to the absence of adult heterosexual men in the households (Gartrell, Bos, & Goldberg, 2010). Girls raised by lesbians tend to have higher self-esteem, show more maturity and tolerance than their peers, and are older when they have their first heterosexual contact (Gartrell et al., 2005, 2010). Children raised by same-sex parents seem to be less constrained by traditional gender roles; boys are less aggressive, and girls are more inclined to consider nontraditional careers, such as doctor, lawyer, or engineer (Gartrell et al., 2005; Stacey & Biblarz, 2001). Over the course of more than 20 years, scientists studied the psychological adjustment of 78 teenagers who were raised by lesbian mothers. Compared to age-matched counterparts raised by heterosexual parents, these adolescents were rated higher in social, academic, and total competence, and lower in social problems, rule-breaking, aggression, and externalizing problem behavior (Gartrell & Bos, 2010). There are fewer studies of children raised by two men, but gay fathers are more likely than straight fathers to put their children before their career, to make big changes in their lives to accommodate a child, and to strengthen bonds with their extended families after becoming fathers (Bergman, Rubio, Green, & Padrone, 2010).”
~ Martha Rosenthal, Human Sexuality: From Cells to Society, p.247.
A study has found that women in same-sex relationships spend 40% more time with their children than parents of children in different sex relationships.
Overall women in both hetero and same sex relationships spend more time with their children and the findings were similar with men in same sex relationships.
“And fathers in same-sex couples spend around the same amount of time with their children as straight mums – which is twice as much as heterosexual dads, on average.“ (Source)
“The report’s author, Kate Prickett, said: “Our findings support the argument that parental investment in children is at least as great – and possibly greater – in same-sex couples as for different-sex couples.” (Source)
The paper is called “A Research Note on Time With Children in Different- and Same-Sex Two-Parent Families.“

seriously though it’s good to have solid scientific data backing this up. Good job.

Obama Just Endorsed 22 LGBTQ+ Candidates Running for November’s Election
Barack Obama announced his official endorsements for candidates running in November’s midterm elections — a list that included 22 openly LGBTQ+ candidates, reflecting the former president’s quiet push back against the hostility of the Trump administration towards the community.
“Today, I’m proud to endorse even more Democratic candidates who aren’t just running against something,” wrote Obama on Twitter, “but for something — to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore dignity, honor, and compassion to public service. They deserve your vote.”
Hey, have you registered to vote?

Because I remember disinformation being spread around the last election and I’m sure Russia will bring it back:
- YOU CAN’T VOTE ONLINE.
- YOU CAN’T VOTE FROM YOUR PHONE.
- IN MANY STATES THERE ARE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES FOR PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR BALLOT.
- DO NOT WEAR CAMPAIGN GEAR TO THE POLLS.
- DO NOT TRY TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE AT THE POLLS.
- DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE AT THE POLLS.
- NO ELECTION IS EVER A SURE THING, EVEN IF YOU’RE IN THE BLUEST OR REDDEST OF STATES. IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SIT THIS ONE OUT, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MALICIOUS.
- VOTE.
VOTE DEMOCRAT!
And check your vote! Make sure the machine you are using is correctly marking your vote. Machines in several states have flipped votes for Democrats to votes for republicans. CHECK YOUR VOTE!
Very important. Too many reports of this happening to dismiss.
